Holiday Movie Night

 In Blog

The holidays can be really hectic. Parties and get-togethers. Family events. Concerts and performances. And while all of these things are really fun, some nights you just want to stay at home and enjoy the holiday season in a quieter way. That’s what makes a holiday movie night a great way to relax and enjoy this time of year.

  • Pick a Date: Calendars fill up quickly during the holidays. Kids have sports, activities, and events at school. You probably have work events and your own activities. And if you’re going to invite friends and family – you want to start planning early. That makes picking a date and committing to it so important.
    • If your holiday movie night is going to be your immediate family, make sure everyone knows the date and commits to attending. If you’ll be inviting others, you want to make sure they have the date early so you can have the best chance that they’ll be able to make it.
  • Choose Your Movie: This may be the hardest task of all – picking a holiday movie (or two) to watch. There are just so many excellent movies that can help you celebrate the season. If you’re looking to choose some festive holiday movies – take a look at this list:
    • A Christmas Story Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
    • A Charlie Brown Christmas Holiday Affair
    • The Polar Express National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
    • It’s a Wonderful Life Home Alone
    • The Man Who Invented Christmas The Muppet Christmas Carol
    • Miracle on 34th Street Elf
    • Love Actually Four Christmases
    • White Christmas Scrooged
    • The Nightmare Before Christmas Holiday Inn
    • How the Grinch Stole Christmas The Santa Clause
    • Scrooge The Holiday
    • Jingle All the Way Christmas in Connecticut
    • Mixed Nuts A Christmas Carol
    • Jack Frost Prancer
  • Plan Your Food and Drink: No movie night is complete without some great food and drinks – and that’s also the case for your holiday movie night. Serve up some warm and comforting foods and delicious drinks – plus a few holiday treats – to make everyone happy. Here are a few ideas:
  • Get Comfy: Of course, you want a movie night to be relaxing and comfortable – so it’s time to grab all sorts of pillows and blankets. And, if you want to go the extra step – skip the ugly Christmas sweaters – and have a movie night in holiday-themed pajamas.
  • Add Some Extras: It’s always nice to plan a few “extras” for movie night. Kids (and adults) love a few surprises. Games and other activities are always a fun addition!
    • Christmas Movie Bingo – Download these free printables and play bingo while watching your chosen movie! You can always pick up a few inexpensive prizes to give away to the winners!
    • Play Trivia and Tell Jokes – There are all sorts of different holiday trivia here – and some really bad jokes! (But kids telling jokes is always cute!)

Don’t let the holiday season pass you by this year without planning a movie night. It’s a great way to take a break from the holiday “busyness” and spend some time with family and friends.
