9 Events to Check Out in Philadelphia This May

One of the great things about living in Marlton is your close proximity to Philadelphia. Philadelphia offers a lot when it comes to dining, museums, and festivals and events. This spring, Philadelphia has a lot going on. Here are nine events in Philly you should consider putting on your calendar during the month of May.

phillyPhiladelphia Science Festival

April 26 – May 4th is the Philadelphia Science Festival which is a celebration of all things science related. This nine-day festival, which has the slogan “Get Nerdy,” highlights all forms of science and how it relates to our everyday life. This event is for kids and adults, and you should be sure to check out the entire array of events. Some require registration and a fee – so register early for your favorites.

Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival

This festival begins on May 1st and ends on June 30th, so you have plenty of time to check out the Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival. This year you will see over 30 large illuminated lanterns and view cultural performances in the areas of dance and acrobatics. Additionally, there will be Asian cuisine, a Dragon Beer Garden, and an area to shop for Chinese crafts.

Philadelphia Magazine’s Wine Festival

The date of this great festival is May 2nd this year. More than 500 samplings will be available this year, along with food from 20 popular Philadelphia restaurants. There are several levels of tickets available, so decide which level works for you and purchase early, so you don’t miss this event.

South Street Spring Festival

May 4th is the 6th Annual South Street Spring Festival. This free event helps celebrate the spring season and covers 12 blocks in the South Street area. There will be bands playing along with a craft fair, and all of the local restaurants and businesses encourage you to visit. Included in this festival is the Brauhaus Schmitz Maifest celebration.

Philly Tech Week

Philly Tech Week takes place May 3rd – 11th this year and touts itself as a week-long celebration of technology and innovation. You can register online for certain events. You can also submit an idea for an event if you’d like to get involved with Philly Tech Week.

Greater Northeast Philadelphia Beer Festival

Mark your calendar for May 4th if you’re a craft beer fan. Sample great craft beers, receive a glass commemorating the event and taste some delicious foods. Make sure you bring your I.D. as this event is only for those 21 years of age and older. And, be sure to buy tickets in advance as they are limited.

Philadelphia Fleadh Festival

If you want to celebrate all things Irish, then don’t miss this festival on May 11th. Get ready for music, dancing, food, drinks and more as you spend the day showing off your Celtic spirit. Tickets are on sale now.

Philadelphia International Children’s Festival

May 2nd – May 4th is the Philadelphia International Children’s Festival. Tickets are on sale now for various performances that will take place on these dates such as Air Play and Moona Luna. Be sure to check out the outdoor activities in the plaza, too. Kids will love all that this festival has to offer!

9th Street Italian Market Festival

Philadelphia’s largest block party takes place on May 18th and 19th this year with the 9th Street Italian Market Festival. This is a family-friendly event with lots of food, music, crafts and other activities. Don’t miss it!
